New Delhi: An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale has hit Indonesia's eastern coast. However there are no reports of damage yet and no tsunami alert has been issued either.
According to the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency of Indonesia today's earthquake had its epicenter some 47 miles southwest of Gorontalo which is a provincial town in northern Sulawesi. It has hit at a depth of 22 miles.
Indonesia is vulnerable to seismic disturbances owing to its location in the Pacific "Ring of Fire", which is an arc of fault lines and volcanoes that encircle the Pacific Basin.
