Raipur: Chhattisgarh police today began investigating death threats received by a central university's vice-chancellor and registrar from a caller who claimed to be a Maoist.
Police registered a written complaint in Bilaspur town after Guru Ghasidas University Vice Chancellor Lakshman Chaturvedi and Registrar H.M. Choubey informed them that they were receiving threat calls.
They said the caller claimed to be a member of the outlawed Communist Party of India-Maoist.
"We are treating the issue very seriously and have sought the samples of the caller's voice that has probably been recorded," a source in police headquarters here told the media.
He added that the caller threatened to gun down or blow them up if his man was not selected. But the caller did not reveal who his man was and the post he was talking about.
The university is based in Bilaspur, about 110 km from here.
